GleeCap: “Never Been Kissed” Episode 6, Season 2... a repost

Obviously, it’s not Sunshine Corazon who has never been kissed in Glee’s episode the other night. Numerous speculations on Glee’s episode six flooded the web a few weeks ago. Everything from Puck’s, Coach Beiste’s and Sunshine’s return to Kurt’s new love interest in the show were discussed in forums and blogs everywhere. And a lot of those “inside scoops” were proven to be plain old rumors last night.

The previous rumor of a spin-the-bottle drama was also not true. A kiss between Kurt and Blaine was also not in the episode six. And the most heartbreaking rumor that was proven wrong is Charice a.k.a. Sunshine Corazon’s comeback on the show. Even without Charice to belt out heartfelt ballads, Glee’s episode six of season two was definitely watchable. It was fun and warm but also socially-aware and delivered a strong message about physical appearance, bullying and sexuality.

A Quick Recap

Much of the episode focused on three storylines: that of Coach Beiste, Puck and Artie, and Kurt.

Coach Beiste is used by Sam as a way to cool down when making out with Quinn. He then told Mike and Tina about his method. Once, Sam blurted out Beiste’s name instead of Quinn’s while they were making out. And in another scene, Tina also blurts out Beiste’s name instead of Mike’s. Quinn got angry and confronted Sam publicly. Beiste manages to catch a part of the argument. She wonders why she’s involved in the students’ quarrel. Then Mike shouts at Beiste to stay away from his girl. Beiste is really puzzled and asks help from Will Schuster.

Kurt, on the other hand, seems to have reached the end of his tolerance for Dave’s bullying just because he’s gay; and add to that the fact that Will puts him on the boys’ team in the glee club’s annual boys versus girl challenge. He heads off to spy on Dalton Academy’s glee club, The Warblers. There he meets Blaine, a member of the Warblers, who brings him to watch their performance of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”. Kurt is surprised to find out that glee members here are considered rockstars and that out-of-the-closet gay people like Blaine are not bullied. Blaine advises Kurt to stand-up to whoever is bullying him. When Kurt returns to McKinley High, Dave slams him against some lockers. Kurt then follows Dave and confronts him inside the locker room. Instead of getting punched, Kurt gets kissed by Dave. He realizes that Dave is also going through some problems. He then asks for Blaine’s help in talking to Dave. But Dave just slams Blaine against the fence before storming off.

Puck is now back from juvenile detention and is instead, just doing community work. He tells Artie that his officer allowed him to help a cripple (Artie) as a substitute to picking up trash. The two then earns about three hundred dollars just from singing illegally “One Love” and “People Get Ready” outside the school cafeteria. Artie then steals a glimpse of Brittany which Puck notices. He tells him that they are going to Styx for a double-date with Santana and Brittany. Puck plans on doing his usual dine and dash routine, but Artie still pays for their dinner, which made Puck really angry. The next day, Puck gets called into the principal office. He is told that helping Artie is not counted as community service. He gets really angry and storms out of the office after shouting that nobody actually cares about him. After that, Artie tries to help Puck and tells him he’ll tutor him in geometry and accompany him when he’s picking up trash. It looks like it’s a start of a new friendship between the two.

Near the end of the episode, after the girls’ team wonderful performance of “Living on a Prayer” and “Start Me Up”; Will finds out that Coach Beiste has quit after he revealed the reason behind the students’ attitude towards her. Will then find Beaste packing her things and tries to convince her to stay. Beaste reveals that she was really hurt and that at age 40, she has never been kissed. Will gives her a friendly kiss on the lips and tells her that the boys have prepared a song number as a way to say sorry to her. In the New Direction’s classroom, the boys apologize to Coach Beiste and proceed to do an amazing number of “Stop in the Name of Love” and “Free Your Mind”. The episode ends with the boys group-hugging Coach Beiste.
