Here are 9 tested solutions which help moms and dads avoid the undetectable risks that keep babies unsafe

Did you know how you can distinguish the "Musts" from the "Shoulds" for your child safety equipment?
Maybe you have made your list? Here are the actual baby-proofing items that should be at the must-have tippy top.
I recognize that we don't all have hundreds of dollars in order to throw down the all-essential childproofing budget gap. To help the protection of the serious yet monetarily fainthearted, I've labeled them into the "musts", meaning that you should not care where you buy them, but good parenting requires them.
When you have more than one kid (or are often distracted), consider the more distractions you have in your house, the more distractable you are, the more important your baby-proofing is.
The following (in order of importance) 9 baby proofing things you "must" have to keep your baby safe:
1° A Good Gate: Even if you live in a ranch-style home or even an apartment with no stairways, there will be rooms or areas you won't want your baby walking into, so a good gate is definitely a must-have babyproofing purchase.

2° A Blind Winder: The number of children strangled every year due to dangling blind and shade cords is devastating. In fact, the Customer Product Safety Commission lists cords as one of the "hidden hazards" parent's don't think of. There are numerous inexpensive window blind winders out there, but if you have to by hand re-wind the cord right after every use, chances are you won't use it.

3° Anti-Tip Anchors: If you have a climber (or possible climber) on your hands, furnishings straps are a must. Whether it's a dresser or a bookshelf, attach these weighty pieces of furniture on the wall with anti-tip band to avoid the furniture from tipping over.

4° Fireplace Safety: The hard stone around the fireplace hearth can be very hazardous with little ones close to. Its sharp edges and rough stone corners can cut, and seriously hurt a tripping child. You need to choose one of the several good hearth bumper pads available in the marketplace.

5° Corner Edge Bumpers: You can cover the corners of your end-tables and coffee tables with corner and side guards. One-sizing-fits all because you cut the foam to fit your particular table exactly.

6° Outlet Covers: For used outlets with cords, you can buy a cover that will prevent your newborn from unplugging the cord and messing with the wall plug. They are best for high-traffic areas where you will be plugging and un-plugging items regularly.

7° Childproof Latches for Cabinets and Drawers: Drawer latches are also a must-have for childproofing your home. They'll prevent your growing infant from reaching intact drawers with sharp or tiny items stored on the inside. Ideal for the kitchen, bathroom, or home office. Choose childproof latches that won't let your little one to get even a hand inside.

8° Railing Net: Stair and railing nets will also be a must if the railing spindles are generally further than 2.5 to 3 inches apart.

9° Bathtub Safety Items: Bath-time is always interesting for a growing baby. Keep it secure by using some of these little accessories.

- A bathtub thermometer to gauge water temperature.

- A bathtub safety rail to help the little one get in and out from the tub safely.

- A faucet cover that will protect her little head from nasty bumps.

These are the most important baby safety equipment items out there. Consider them as an important investment you will make in the years of growth and exploration still ahead of you.

Charice rushed to the hospital in Singapore; Jennylyn Mercado recovers from heart attack

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino international singer Charice was rushed to a hospital in Singapore in the afternoon of Oct. 30 due to food poisoning.

Charice’s mom, Raquel Pempengco, said via a post on her Twitter account on Saturday that “she had a slight stomach ache due to the sushi that she ate in the green room.”

Circulating tweets, meanwhile, also stated that according to Charice’s Philippine manager Grace Mendoza, the young chanteuse suffered from food poisoning and had to be taken to the hospital for “safety precautions.”

It was not only Charice who had to be taken to the hospital, Mommy Raquel added, but also “all of the staff of the DFF” [David Foster and Friends].

David Seow, a Singaporean children’s book author, tweeted on the same day that he saw “Charice being rushed out of her hotel in Singapore in a wheelchair. Hope she is ok. Pray 4 her.”

Charice’s mom is thankful that the 18-year old YouTube sensation and the rest of the staff are “all good now and nothing [happened] seriously.”

The “Glee” star is currently in Singapore as part of the ensemble of the “David Foster and Friends” five-city Asian concert tour.

Although Charice’s management reportedly cancelled her press conference scheduled on Saturday afternoon, Mommy Raquel assured her daughter’s fans that the “David Foster and Friends” concert is pushing through.

Jennylyn Mercado recovering from heart attack

Back in Manila, meanwhile, Kapuso star Jennylyn Mercado is now recovering—and has resumed working—after she was rushed to the hospital last Oct. 28 after she collapsed due to a heart attack.

In a phone interview on showbiz talk show “Startalk,” the actress recalled that she was dubbing for the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Rosario” (in which she plays the title role) when she began to experience numbing of several parts of her body and difficulty in breathing.

“Last two sequences ko na [nung] bigla na lang nanigas ‘yung tongue ko tapos ‘yung lips ko… tapos nabubulol na ko. ‘Yung ears ko namamanhid na pati ‘yung kamay ko, lalo na ‘yung left hand ko, pati ‘yung legs ko. Tapos parang may mabigat sa dibdib ko parang may nakadagan. Nahirapan akong huminga,” she recalled.

Jennylyn said she had a similar experience about a month ago. “Nanonood lang naman ako [n’on] ng TV. Pero ‘yon talagang nag-black out ako,” she added.

The “Little Star” actress, who’s been diagnosed with a heart problem when she was young, deemed the attack might’ve been triggered by her heavy workload. She has been taking maintenance medicine since.

To safeguard her heart for another possible sudden attack, Jennylyn said she makes it a point to always stay happy and calm.

BEIJING – The newest Miss World is from the United States.

Alexandria Mills, Miss World
Alexandria Mills, a soft-spoken 18-year-old, was named the winner in Saturday night's contest in southern China. The tall blonde was a relative surprise winner after speculation focused on other contestants.

Mills takes over the title from Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar, who was named Miss World 2009 at a ceremony in South Africa last December.

Lucky to have my kind of skin

I am lucky to have a non sensitive skin.  No need to worry in eating oily foods like peanuts or anything similar while others would refrain from eating to avoid acne from popping out just anywhere in the face.

My skin is not sensitive in any facial wash, I can use just any kind I want.  Ponds products are what I usually have because of its availability in the market, but I don't need worry as well if get to use regular bath soap or anything that I can grab from the wash room.  Just earlier, I used a Master facial wash, something that says "whitening whatever".  I got it from my sister-in-laws wash room since my family and I are sleeping over her house.  I liked the Master's facial wash methol effect on my face.  "Ate Nina, if you get to read this blog, sorry to use your facial wash without permission, but its a nice one. Hope you really don't get angry."

Glad that I don't need to use any acne face cream since I never had any problems with acne before.  Hope not in the future too, im crossing my fingers. If you're gonna ask what my secret is, I would honestly say I don't know.  I don't keep any ritual in cleaning my face.  Bathing and simple washing is enough for me as long as I am refreshed I am happy.

Though I must admit, I am already past my 30 and my skin is not getting any younger at all.  Guess, my only secret would be having an enough clean face daily. By the way, I very seldom use make-ups, just lipstick sometimes.

Eczema |How Familiar are you?

Had you been joked of having an eczema by one of your bully classmates back in primary or secondary school, how did you react?  Especially if you are somehow clueless of the word's true meaning.  Eczema is a very familiar word for me but honestly I am not able to give an exact tagalog word to translate eczema.   I guess this dilemma of translating english words to filipino words is an issue that can be ignored without any problem.  But there are also times it can bother us and bring us to atleast google the word to satisfy our curious minds.

I managed to gather some picture from this website showing a lady that developed an eczema called allergic contact dermatitis.

Other types of  skin conditions can be classified as eczema, too.  Dandruff and baby rashes are both classified as eczema.  In general terms, it is a common understanding that an eczema is a skin condition that results for the skin to become swollen,  itchy and irritated.

All Saint's Day Family Gathering

Tomorrow would be an exciting day for my husband Rey and his siblings.  Since we do not live anymore in Antipolo, getting together with his family is something to look forward for him.  Our move in Cavite is the very first time Rey stayed away from his family, ever his first.

Rey is now at work, but after his work tomorrow morning, Gab and I will meet him at Megamall and head on home to his family. Another thing that excites him as well is light blue 1.3E Vios that he took away from Toyota garage earlier on, we will have it blessed tomorrow at Antipolo church.

I can imagine how his brother and sister will prepare for this event, its seldom that get together now so for sure food will overflow in the table.   Good thing I have my phentermine diet pill always available in my bag.  The kids will surely enjoy too, Gab, Matthew, Yma, Cali and Jay jay will have a good playing time on Sunday afternoon.  We will spend the evening at my sister-in-laws place because its a no-work day for Rey on 1st Nov and my office hours would be by 4pm.

Wrinkles | Silent Enemy

Wrinkles are like silent enemy. You wouldn't realize they've already attacked you.  Wrinkles have two types, one is the crow's feet type that develop around the eyes and the other one is the under eye wrinkles.  I wouldn't want to have any type of wrinkle at all and I wonder if there is any escape.

Several factors may cause wrinkles in the eye area.  Mostly say its the sign of aging, others would say it due to our facial expression, but I would say the most logical reason that I came across my  web research is due to plenty of sun exposure. Heat of the sun wears out the thin layers of the skin, dries it up and results to sagging of the skin.  Smoking, also one the most common reason, excuse me my "smoker" friends.

But just like any other health or beauty issues, prevention is still the best way to avoid wrinkles. Use of wrinkle eye creams is best when started at least before they start to show on our faces.  Young ones would not exhibit wrinkles but it will haunt them as they get older.

Mom's Birthday Gift

My mother's birthday is fast approaching and I still can't think of an inexpensive anniversary gifts for her. Yes, that really is the term, inexpensive gifts, its the thought that counts anyway.

My mom stays in his 2nd husband's place, which is so far away from us, and I think giving her this metal family tree sculpture is best.  She will have all our pictures hanging on the this miniature tree that she can place on her side table.

And since she is a first time Granda to my son, this can be a good choice as well.

Liz Uy romantic with Pnoy?

"I'd really, really not comment about anything. Thank you." said Liz Uy at the recent fashion week regarding her rumored "romantic" relationships with Pres. Noy Aquino.
Well, seems like everyone does not want to comment at all, do you think they are really hiding something....just a thought.

Avon Winning Coupon

Recently, I joined Avon as a Franchise Dealer.  Its not that I really want to do direct selling but its because I was convinced by Ester to register.  Ester is the very first nanny of my son Gab, she now takes care of our small variety store.  Ester requested that I register to Avon due to number of people asking her to sell Avon products.  Unfortunately, she cannot register because she was not able to bring with her any identification from the province when she went to us to work.

I am shy to sell, but just by having a catalogue of Avon that people see from me.  They will just get it from me, sometimes even without my permission, because I did not see them get it, but when it comes back, it comes back with a handful of orders.  In return, I got numbers of raffle coupons from Avon which entitles me to win diamonds.  If I win, I'll share it with Ester, had she not push me to register I aint gonna get any of these winning coupons.

Binoculars

When I was a child, I thought binoculars are merely toys.  My grandmother would buy me  binoculars made of plastics that I could play with my playmates.  It comes in different lovely colors.   I didn't realize that there is something like steiner binoculars that is actually for professional use.

I am not very good in explaining but I as look at the picture, it's very obvious that it's created by  great minds. History claims that Phoenicians cooking on sand were the first to discover glass at around 3500 BCE.
Binoculars is an optical instrument used to magnify view of distant objects. Compared to a telescope a binocular has two identical telescopes for both eyes that is mounted on a single frame. The very first binocular telescope was invented by J.P. Lemiere in 1825.

Home Sweet Home

Come next year, we have plans of moving to our very own house in Biñan, Laguna.  I don't want to admit, especially to Rey that I am really excited.  All my life, I never lived in a house I can say mine except in my Lola's house in Bicol where I spent most of  my childhood years.

I am planning to do minor renovations in our house, just recently my tenants mentioned that we need to change the leaking faucets.  Grohe faucets would be lovely in my tiled kitchen and washroom. Gab's loves to play water in the faucet but that would be dealt later on.

out house, it's bare when it was turned over to us

Grohe "Bridgeford"

Dishwashing would never be a problem if I have these lovely Ghoho faucets.........

Hot Cakes

About five years ago, flying to another country would mean becoming an OFW for an average person like me or it could be a business trip for someone having business abroad.  Nowadays, going to another county is like a daily trip to shopping malls.

Travel deals are easily made by most of the person I new.  Airline company are selling plane tickets like hotcake.   As I write this blog, my friend blogger and officemate Dea  is now in  Hong Kong with her sister May and boyfriend Abet.  Another of our colleague, Chris just came back from a leisure from Singapore two weeks ago.  And also anytime from now, another of my colleague Jen will fly to the US, she will be away for a month.

My brother in law, Roger, had been to Hong Kong after his wedding and they are planning to go back in a years time with their daughter Yma.

I wonder if Rey and I will plan travelling outside of the country soon.......

Projectors Evolution

Back in high school, we used to present and report assignments in front of the whole class.  Things like these are those I really don't want to do, if I have an option not to speak in front of so many people to deliver an information I wouldn't do it.  I thought I could scape reporting and talking in front of people once I finish school.  I was wrong....

I would have to do another reporting, this time at work. I will have to discuss an update to my officemates.  Since I am not doing this for the last 10 years in my life, I was preparing it like I used to do in highschool.  I am planning to use  projectors to deliver the report so my officemate will have visual aid.

An overhead projector  is what I have in mind, an old one we used to have in high school, .

I remember using this slide projector as well in college.
To  my surprise, I never thought that there is now a pocket projector.  This is what was given to me when I requested one from our IT.   Its easy to use, I enjoyed delivering my report because of the pocket projector I was using.

Thanks to my Dear Husband

Last Christmas I did not expect  Rey would give a laptop as a present. He knows I am planning to save to buy a atleast a netbook to do online business such as ptc's (paid to click) and blogging. Netbooks are really handy, so its my first choice.  I can keep it inside my bag and bring it anywhere I go.

Since Christmas is just around the corner, I am thinking of a nice present to give him that he will appreciate. Rey is not hard to please, he would accept anything or nothing if I will not really afford to give him anything. He is happy enough that we are beside him and supports him all the time.

Thank you God that I have Rey and thank you God that you gave us Gab.

are you a Puregold shopper

Are you a Puregold shopper?  I am.

Shopping at Puregold has benifits and disadvatages. I'd like to share some of my experiences with you.

You can do EPS with them if you have an ATM that has that feature, however, you cannot do two purchases in one visit.  There is no limit on the amount as long as your balance can accomodate it not with the number of transactions.

If you will shop using a credit card, make sure that you will bring at least 2 valid id's with you to avoid the cashier  refusing to swipe your card.

Expect that your receipts will be checked by the security guard at the exit, they will count your shopping bag and make sure it will match on what the bagger's wrote on your receipt.

I appreciate the security measures being practiced by the employees of Puregold, but I believe they are missing some area to focus to aside from security check. At SM, you will not be prohibited to use your ATM as many times as you want and SM cashiers will not ask you for a valid ID if you wish to use your credit cards, atleast not all the time.  SM security guard will not check your shopping bags at the exit as well.

One time I purchased a  microphone at Puregold, unfortunately, I needed to return it due to a factory damage.  As a customer I will of course as for a replacement.  So I head on to Puregold before I go to my office, I was in a hurry so I went to the customer service area, they called the crew that is assigned to the electronic equipment where I got the microphone.  He accompanied me to check other microphones and test it. I was able to chose a replacement right away, we head on the cashier, this crew knew I am in a hurry.  Luckily, there are not much people on the cashiers lane, we had a very accomodating and friendly cashier and bagger on my lane.

Now this is the big surprise, after the cashier documented my replacement item, the crew that accompanied me took the new microphone back without saying a word and walk back to his post.  All of us were surprised to what he did.  The bagger followed him back to get the microphone back, kinda weird because the bagger said the crew did not say a word at all.

This happened at Puregold Imus, hope you don't have the same experience that I had.

In my dreams

Since I was a child, I never liked riding the "kalesa" or the horse drawn carriage.  Maybe its because I pitty the horses when their mouth is full of bubbles when they are already tired running around with the "kalesa" behind. That is how I got exposed to it when I was a new in Manila from Bicol  during my childhood days.  We lived in Tondo during those times and the horse drawn carriage is a common ride coming from Divisoria going to just anywhere.  Our house is situated along Juan Luna where most horses drawn carriage going to Pajo or somewhere in Caloocan passes by.

On the contrary, I like to have horses,  beautiful horses.  I want  a black beauty with a white stud on her foreheard.  I will not let him have a carriage on her back instead I will pamper my horse, give her cold  water and fresh grass and let her sleep sound and comfortably. I imagine myself in my riding breeches similar to what men worn in the 17th and 18th centuries while I enjoy a ride with my black beauty.  Its now the 20th century so what those men can have then women can have it too, now.

Love The Way You Lie | Eminem ft Rihanna

[Chorus - Rihanna]

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
that’s alright because I like the way it hurts
just gonna stand there and hear me cry
that’s alright because i love the way you lie
i love the way you lie

[Eminem - Verse 1]

I can’t tell you what it really is
I can only tell you what it feels like
and right now it’s a steel knife in my windpipe
I can’t breathe but i still fight while i can fight
as long as the wrong feels right it’s like i’m in flight
high off of love drunk from my hate
it’s like i’m huffin’ paint and I love it the more I suffer, I suffocate
and right before i’m about to drown, she resuscitates me, she fuckin’ hates me
and i love it, wait, where you goin’?
i’m leavin’ you, no you ain’t come back
we’re runnin’ right back, here we go again
its so insane, cause when it’s goin’ good its goin’ great
I’m superman with the wind in his back, she’s Lois Lane
but when its bad its awful, I feel so ashamed I snap
whose that dude? I don’t even know his name
I laid hands on her
I never stoop so low again
I guess I don’t know my own strength

[chorus]

[Eminem - Verse 2]

you ever love somebody so much you can barely breathe
when your with em you meet and neither one of you even know what hit em
got that warm fuzzy feeling
yeah them chills used to get em
now you’re getting fuckin’ sick of lookin’ at em
you swore you’d never hit em, never do nothin’ to hurt em
now you’re in each other’s face spewin’ venom in your words when you spit em
you push pull each other’s hair
scratch, claw, hit em throw em down pin em
so lost in the moments when you’re in em
it’s the face that’s the culprit, controls you both
so they say it’s best to go your seperate ways
guess that they don’t know ya
cause today that was yesterday
yesterday is over, it’s a different day
sound like broken records playin’ over
but you promised her next time you’ll show restraint
you don’t get another chance
life is no nintendo game, but you lied again
now you get to watch her leave out the window
guess that’s why they call it window pane

[Chorus]

[Eminem - Verse 3]

now I know we said things, did things, that we didn’t mean
and we fall back into the same patterns, same routine
but your temper’s just as bad as mine is, you’re the same as me
when it comes to love you’re just as blinded
baby please come back, it wasn’t you, baby it was me
maybe our relationship isn’t as crazy as it seems
maybe that’s what happens when a tornado meets a volcano
all i know is i love you too much to walk away though
come inside, pick up the bags off the sidewalk
don’t you hear sincerity in my voice when i talk?
told you this is my fault, look me in the eyeball
next time i’m pissed I’ll lay my fist at the drywall
next time there won’t be no next time
i apologize even though i know its lies
i’m tired of the games i just want her back
i know i’m a liar if she ever tries to fuckin’ leave again
i’ma tie her to the bed and set this house on fire

Christmas 2010 | 2nd Christmas with Gab

Christmas is just around the corner.  In 2 months time, its christmas once again.  By now I am excited to decorate our house for my little boy.  I am thinking of what decors add to what we already have, my baby would love it much.

Since we are now living in Imus Cavite, we can choose to have the best lantern made in Imus.  Gab love those dancing lights on the lantern, he always giggles everytime our car passes by those lanterns for sale along the streets.

I am also going to buy Christmas wreaths, a big one for the main door and 2 small ones just enough for the doors inside the house going to our rooms.

...can't wait to take another photo of my baby and husband beside the christmas tree

Best Eye Cream I've got

Ever had those dark circles under eyes this is very common to those who work in  call centers like me and does graveyard shift.  Same goes to those who works for a 24 hour fast food chain or restuarants.  These people always have to face people in their daily jobs but having problems with dark cirles under eyes.

I checked online to find some help in eliminating this beauty problem that  I have and I am lucky to come across an effective eye cream. Check this website here

Young girls, you are beautiful and sexy

Young girls, you are beautiful and sexy!!!  I wish I told this to myself when I was younger, single and hadn't given birth yet.  Of course, I am not saying that getting older, marrying and giving birth made me ugly.  It's one of the best thing that happened to me in my whole life.  I so much love my husband Rey and baby Gab!!!!

It's just it's too late for me to realize that young girls are beautiful and sexy. When I was single, I thought I was fat and not as sexy and pretty like my friends.  I never appreciated that fact that I can buy shirts in medium size or a pants with a 27" waist line. I only appreaciate how I looked before after my pregnancy.  When I was desperate to put back on my old jeans and shirts.  Good thing a friend introduce me a phentermine diet pills to put me back in shape.

Now I am able to wear again my old blouses and jeans and office clothes.  It's not only that I am back in my old shape, I am feeling more confident now.  So young girls, lets all say we are beautiful and sexy!!!

Ever wonder what is colon cancer?

I must admit, I first heard of this desease when ex-Pres. Cory Aquino had it. Maybe I've heard of it before but I just ignored it.

Online research made me aware that each one of us can may have it if we will not be careful.  I say prevention matters the most.  Colon cancer is a silent killer.  Some of the causes of colon cancer are aging, diet and environment.  These factors are always present in each and everyone of us.

Colon cleansing or colon therapy is a way to remove feces and toxins from the colon and intestinal.  It is best that we are always on the safer side.

I'd like to hear from you, share to me your opinions or personal experience on this.........Let's all be healthy.

My Skin Care Secret

They say simple problems should not really bother us, especially if its something that we can simply ignore.  People who do not experience acne are lucky, but I wonder if there has ever been one person who did not ever, ever had acne, I doubt it. In general, people who does not have acne right now or does not always have it, have had it at least one or twice in their lifetime.  Acne have always been bothering people since teenage life. Agree or not?  I do.

I am lucky coming across this natural acne pills website, it promotes natural formula so its not harmful to the skin. Many of my friends have tried different acne fighting formula, some are not effective at all, some have been effective only for a time. When work load is more than too much for me in the office, that's when I also get acne on my face. I will not be like my friends, I will surely consult natural acne pills and acne will never attack me again.

World's Longest Cat

It took Robin Hendrickson and Erik Brandsness a few years to realize their cat, Stewie, was longer than most – and now they can say he's the longest cat in the world.

Stewie, the world's longest cat.

Last week, Stewie, a 5-year-old Maine Coon cat who lives with his family in Reno, Nev., was certified by Guinness World Records as the world's longest domestic cat.

"We realized that Stewie was exceptionally long about three years ago," Hendrickson told the Reno Gazette-Journal. "Everyone says, 'Wow what a long cat!' "

Stewie measures 48 ½-inches from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail, and just nipped past the previous record-holder, a cat measuring just 48-inches.

Charice on Her ‘Glee’ Guest Role.. repost from http://blogs.wsj.com

Sunshine Corazon, aka Charice, made her first appearance as an exchange student on last week’s episode of “Glee.” Her throaty arrangements immediately served as foil to Rachel’s Broadway-ish song stylings –- and prompted a musical catfight that will no doubt extend the rest of the season (until, in true “Full House” style, Sunshine and Rachel make up, become best friends and battle evil with high notes). Charice, the 18-year-old belter who has earned comparisons to Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, was discovered on YouTube and then featured on “Ellen” and Oprah.” Speakeasy caught up with her to chat about Sunshine’s arc for the season.

The Wall Street Journal: How did you end up on the show?

Charice: I auditioned about three months ago. I said to my mom, “why don’t we try to audition for ‘Glee’?” We went to see [co-creators] Ryan [Murphy] and Brad [Falchuk] and I sang for them. After weeks, I found out that I was part of the show through Twitter. I didn’t believe it at first, but the next minute I got an email saying I got the role.

Are you featured in tonight’s episode? How much of Sunshine’s story line do you know already?

I’m not in the Britney episode, and I’m not in the Rocky Horror episode. I might be in episode four or five. They gave me the script for the first episode so far but they haven’t given me the rest.

Do you think Sunshine will be only Rachel’s rival? Or could she take on Mercedes as well?

Mercedes is really great – I could be her rival too.

If you got to choose Sunshine’s invariable love interest, would you pick Other Asian, Puck or Finn?

Actually, I kinda like Artie. Sunshine’s character is a bit nerdy, so I think they would be cute together.

You’ve covered Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Jennifer Holliday. Are there any artists you’d like to cover on the show?

Sunshine would love to dance. I would love to try a Michael Jackson song. I also haven’t covered any Christina Aguilera, but I love her.

Tell Ryan Murphy to write you a pensive moment so you can sing “Reflection” from Mulan.

[Laughing] I’ll have to see how the story goes.

You’ve sung with Lea Salonga before. Do you get lots of comparisons to her?

We’ve worked together before in the Philippines, but no one can be her. She’s a professional and I’m just starting out. I’d sing with her again, but it would be a bit challenging because she’s more Broadway and I’m more of a pop singer.

How much of Sunshine’s wardrobe would we be able to find in your own closet?

Her wardrobe is exactly what I wear everyday. When I saw it, I said, “Oh my goodness, it’s Charice.”

Is it true you’ve never had voice lessons?

Just this year, I got my first ever voice lesson. But way back before I never had one.

John Stamos debuts as a love interest for Emma on tonight’s show. Are there any other actors or artists you’d love to see cameo?

I would love to see Justin Timberlake come on the show because he’s hot. I met him last year and I was right in front of him, but Jessica Biel was there so it was not my night.

Typhoon Juan 18th October 2010

a repost from manilatimes.net
Signal No. 4 over Cagayan, Isabela as winds reach 225 kph

Typhoon Juan intensified further on Sunday with winds near its center reaching 225 kilometers per hour (kph) forcing the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) to raise public storm signal No. 4 over Isabela and Cagayan
in northern Luzon. The typhoon (international name Megi) is expected to make landfall on Monday morning and the eye of the typhoon is expected to pass by Cagayan, Apayao and Ilocos Norte.

In their late afternoon press conference, the weather bureau announced that Juan was spotted 390 kilometers east of Appari in Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 225kph near the center and gustiness of up to 260kph. It is forecast to move west at 22kph.

Before Sunday afternoon when it was 520k east of Appari, Juan packed winds of 195kph near the center and gustiness of up to 230kph. But Pagasa said also before Sunday afternoon that there is still a possibility that Juan could become a “super typhoon,” which would bring maximum sustained winds of 215kph.

Pagasa hoisted public storm signal No.4 over Cagayan and Isabela, while signal No. 3 was raised in Batanes, Calayan, Babuyan Group of Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Quirino and Northern Aurora.

Storm signal No. 2 was hoisted over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, La Union, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya and Aurora.

Meanwhile, storm signal No. 1 was declared over Panga-sinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Polilio Island.
Pagasa said that areas not directly on the path of the typhoon, particularly Metro Manila, will experience only cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers.
This is because the southwest monsoon (“habagat”) had already ended, and won’t cause heavy rains, according to Robert Sawi, officer in charge of the weather division.

Suspension of classes

Classes in areas where storm signal Numbers 2, 3 and 4 are automatically suspended. But since no storm signal has been raised over Metro Manila or the National Capital Region (NCR), Education Undersecretary Alberto Muyot said that classes in the metropolis will not be suspended.

“Since there are no storm signals, there will be classes in the NCR,” he said.

In an interview over ABS-CBN, Muyot said that the suspension of classes are based on existing guidelines of the Department of Education.

Based on the guidelines, classes in the preschool, kindergarten, elementary and high school levels are automatically suspended if storm signal Numbers 2, 3 and 4 are hoisted by Pagasa.

Meanwhile, classes in the preschool and kindergarten levels are automatically suspended in all areas under storm signal No. 1 and upward.

Suspension of classes for the college level, meanwhile, is under the discretion of the colleges and universities concerned, and also upon orders of the Commission on Higher Education, Muyot said.

Palace advises public
At the Palace, deputy spokesman Abigail Valte said residents in affected areas should prepare for Typhoon Juan, pointing out that correct preparations are the best weapon to avert any disaster during powerful typhoons.

During an interview over Radyo ng Bayan, Valte also advised parents and students not to wait for an official announcement from Education department on the suspension of classes during a inclement weather.

On Friday, President Benigno Aquino 3rd said in his statement that the government would be giving hourly updates on Typhoon Juan through the Pagasa website and its official Twitter feed.

President Aquino also asked residents in affected areas to cooperate with their barangay, municipal, provincial and national officials in ensuring orderly and efficient preparations are made.

“The private sector, too, can alert their employees, particularly those who are Red Cross volunteers, to be ready to help, when needed. We do not want to unduly alarm the public but there is nothing lost by being prepared,” he said.

“Let us all do our part to ensure that we remain focused on proactive measures to reduce risk to populations,” President Aquino said, adding that he is confident that the government will work hand-in-hand with the citizenry “to bring out the best in all of us as we brace for the coming storm.”

The Philippines is battered by an estimated 20 typhoons a year, some of them deadly.

Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng struck Luzon within a week of each other in September and October last year, triggering the worst flooding in recent history.

The twin storms killed more than 1,000 people, affected nearly 10 million and caused damage worth $4.3 billion, according to the World Bank and international humanitarian agencies.

Still dangerous after three days

China’s National Meteorological Center said Juan was expected to enter the South China Sea on Monday and could cause wild winds and huge waves in the next three days, Xinhua said.

The US Navy’s Joint Typhoon Warning Center in its latest advisory Sunday said Juan has undergone “rapid intensification” over the past 12 hours, but could weaken as it moves across mountainous terrain upon entering Luzon.

Juan would then begin to steadily re-intensify as it exits the country for the South China Sea, it said.

Top 10 Famous Stutterers- a repost from Listverse[dot]com

Stuttering is a speech disorder (it’s not a disease, please), the impact of which on a person’s emotional state can be severe. Most people who stutter usually prefer keeping a low-key image for the fear of being caught stuttering in social situations, and often project their negative feelings onto others, believing that they think he is nervous or stupid. This is what people generally know. What people don’t know is that deep down within their hearts, these people have a burning desire to use their potential to the fullest, but are restrained from doing so due to their impediment. (I can tell, I am a stutterer myself). But then, there are people who take an entirely different route and are able to turn their biggest problem into their biggest asset. Here we take a look at 10 such people, and how they scripted their resounding success stories in their respective fields, and how they continue to inspire to this day.

(you won't believe all of them are men!)

Top 10
James Earl Jones

James Earl Jones is an American actor of stage and screen, and is best known for providing the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise, and Mufasa in The Lion King. At the age of five he developed a stutter so severe he refused to speak aloud. When he moved to Brethren, Michigan, in later years, a teacher at the Brethren schools started to help him with his stutter. He remained functionally mute for eight years until he reached high school. He credits his high school teacher, Donald Crouch, who discovered he had a gift for writing poetry, with helping him out of his silence. The teacher believed forced public speaking would help him gain confidence and insisted he recite a poem in class each day. In an interview he said, “I was a stutterer. I couldn’t talk. So my first year of school was my first mute year, and then those mute years continued until I got to high school.”

Top 9
Bruce Willis

In 1972, while Willis was still a teenager, his parents separated. He then attended Penns Grove High School in his hometown, where he encountered issues with a stutter. He used to be hatefully nicknamed Buck-Buck by his schoolmates. Finding it easy to express himself on stage, and losing his stutter in the process, Willis began performing on stage and his high school activities were marked by such things as the drama club and being student council president. Eventually his hard work and perseverance paid off, with the result that today he is counted amongst the most successful actors of all time.

Top 8
Somerset Maugham

His mother died at the age of 41, in France. Two years after Maugham’s mother’s death, his father died of cancer. He was sent to be cared for by his uncle, Henry MacDonald Maugham, the Vicar of Whitstable, in Kent, England, who proved cold and emotionally cruel. At The King’s School, Canterbury, where William was a boarder during school terms, he developed the stammer that would stay with him all his life. A career in the church was rejected because a stammering minister might make the family seem ridiculous. As a result, he developed a talent for applying a disparaging remark to those who displeased him, which often reflects in his works. But his traumatic stutter did not in any way hinder his becoming among the most popular writers of his era, and, reputedly, the highest paid author during the 1930s.

Top 7
Lewis Caroll

Lewis Carroll suffered from a stammer, a condition shared by his siblings, that plagued him throughout his life. Although Carroll’s stammer troubled him, it never prevented him from applying his other personal qualities to do well in society. At a time when people commonly devised their own amusements, and when singing and recitation were required social skills, the young Carroll was well-equipped to be an engaging entertainer. He could sing tolerably well and was not afraid to do so before an audience. His zeal and enthusiasm did not end here, and he went on to pen one of the greatest children’s classics of all time – Alice in Wonderland.

 Top 6
Scatman John

As John also stuttered, he liked to say, this was a process of “turning my biggest problem into my biggest asset”. John Paul Larkin, better known by his stage name Scatman John, was an American jazz musician and poet who created a fusion of scat singing and dance music, best known for his 1994 hit “Scatman”. He suffered from a severe stammer which led to an emotionally traumatic childhood. At age 12 he began to learn piano, which provided him with a means of artistic expression to compensate for his speech difficulties. He remarked in a 1996 interview that “playing piano gave me a way to speak… I hid behind the piano because I was scared of talking.” He has sold millions of recordings worldwide and was named “Best New Artist” in the Echo Awards in both Japan and Germany.

Top 5
Anthony Hopkins

“I was a total loner, not by self-design. I just didn’t know what the hell to say to people. I was so shy. I used to stammer and lisp and dribble at the mouth.” A loner with dyslexia, Hopkins’s schooldays proved to be unproductive and he found that he would rather immerse himself in art, such as painting and drawing or playing the piano, than attend to his studies. At the age of 15, he was influenced and encouraged to become an actor by compatriot Richard Burton, and went on to become one of film’s greatest living actors with his portrayal of Dr.Hannibal Lecter fetching him an Oscar in 1992.

Top 4
Claudius
Claudius was reportedly afflicted with some type of disability in his childhood, and his family had virtually excluded him from public office, until his consulship with his nephew, Caligula, in AD 37. He stammered and his speech was confused. When angered or stressed, his symptoms became worse. But in spite of his sufferings, Claudius proved to be an able administrator, and became the fourth Roman Emperor, a member of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, ruling from 24 January AD 41 to his death in AD 54.

Top 3
Winston Churchill

While The Churchill Centre flatly refutes the claim that Churchill stuttered, a large number of 1920s–1940s printed materials by various authors mention the stutter in terms implying that it was a well-known Churchill characteristic. Churchill described himself as having a speech impediment which he consistently worked to overcome. But it was indicative of the man’s grit that, in spite of having a speech disorder, he made one of the finest orators of all time. Churchill’s speeches were a great inspiration to the British in times of war. The Stuttering Foundation of America uses him, pictured on its home page, as one of its role models of successful stutterers.

Top 2

Moses

The Talmud interprets Bible passages to indicate Moses was a stutterer, and that placing a burning coal in his mouth had caused him to be “slow and hesitant of speech” (Exodus 4, v.10). The Koran also has a reference to how Moses called upon God to free him of his speech impediment. (Sura Ta Ha 20:25.) Moses was born in turbulent times, and to lead the masses was no easy task for a person who was afflicted with a speech disorder. Yet, through his brilliant and effective oratory, he proved to be an inspirational leader.

Top 1
Demosthenes

Demosthenes was a prominent Greek statesman, and orator, of ancient Athens. As a boy, Demosthenes had a speech impediment, an inarticulate and stammering pronunciation.

According to Plutarch, the Greek biographer, when Demosthenes first addressed himself to the people, he was derided for his strange and uncouth style, “which was cumbered with long sentences and tortured with formal arguments to a most harsh and disagreeable excess”. When he first left the ecclesia (the Athenian Assembly), disheartened, an old man named Eunomus encouraged him, saying his diction was very much like that of Pericles. Aeschines, his arch-rival taunted him and referred to him in his speeches by the nickname “Batalus”, apparently invented by Demosthenes’ pedagogues. Demosthenes soon undertook a disciplined program to overcome these shortcomings and improve his elocution. He used to talk with pebbles in his mouth and recited verses while running. To strengthen his voice, he spoke on the seashore over the roar of the waves.

The Alexandrian Canon, compiled by Aristophanes of Byzantium and Aristarchus of Samothrace, recognized Demosthenes as one of the ten greatest Attic orators. According to Longinus, Demosthenes “perfected to the utmost the tone of lofty speech, living passions, copiousness, readiness, speed”. Cicero acclaimed him as “the perfect orator”, who lacked nothing, and Quintilian extolled him as lex orandi (“the standard of oratory”) and stated that inter omnes unus excellat (“he stands alone among all the orators”).

Happy Birthday Papa Rey

It was a  nice and simple birthday celebration for Rey yesterday at the Fun Ranch.  We celebrated it with Ate Nina, Matthew, Cali and Jay.  Of course Gab and I were there to complete the fun.

It was actually more of like giving the kids the fun that they want, seems like its not Rey who's celebrating his birthday because we were at Fun Ranch and  its actually a kids place.  But I think this is how it gets when your already a mature family man, instead of thinking of the celebration as yours to celebrate, you think of your kids and other youngsters in the family.

Gab and Matthew had fun, and so Rey had fun enjoying Gab!!!
