How to take your preschooler's temperature

There are two kinds of thermometer that we can use to take our child's body temperature. The old fashioned one with mercury deposit on one end and the newly introduced digital thermometer.  Its best that you know how to use the old fashion thermometer especially when there is an emergency and you can't find a digital thermometer. Make sure that the battery of the digital one is in good running condition to get the accurate temperature.

These thermometer can be used rectally, orally, or under the arm although there are some that are specially designed to use in the rectum.  Mothers, its very important that you designate a thermometer for rectum use only because you don't want infections adding up to your childs condition.

If your child has just taken his bath, you may want to wait up to about 20 minutes to take his temperature accurately.  According to professionals, rectal thermometer is the best and has accurate reading, that is why this is being used for babies under 3 months of age.  This is not done generally for toddlers, imagine how much they would hate it especially when they feel sick.

Late Sunday Night Play time

What is the best time for a 2 year old kid to go to sleep? I'd bet you'd say before 9o'clock in the evening. I wonder why Gab is still hyper and active past 9 in the evening. If you know what my job is, you'd also think its the culprit. See what he loves to do late in the evening...

Gab's New Found Friend

I am so proud of having a son that is so friendly.  That boy is the son of our neighbor table at Sabarro last night at the Mall of Asia.

I think the boy was shy, he only smiles everytime I ask what his name was and he doesn't want to look at the camera.

Thank You Ninang Diane

This is one of Gab's book, The Lion First Bible.  I started buying him books after his first birthday when I observed him that he likes flipping pages and looking at pictures.  Thank you, Ninang Diane for this wondering edition of  children's bible.  This is one of those we found from gift baskets on sale.

Picture books are good to encourage kids to learn to like books, I hope will develop the hobby of reading which I failed to develop during my formative years.

Here is Ninang Diane (Opps, that's how Filipinos address godmothers and Ninong for godfather.) on Gab's christening. Gab spent the whole event only sleeping.

Toys for my boys

Believe it or not, Rey is no different to so many guys who loves to play games just like kids do. It was few years ago when he convinced me to buy PSP to add to his few collection of PS1 and PS2.  PS3 was not yet in the market back then but I think if during that time PS3 is already in the market he would choose to have it over his PSP.

This toy never missed going to his office with him.  It was like its part of his office-thingy that needs to be inside his back pack everyday.  He will not come back when he's left his packed lunch  unintentionally, but he will come running back to the door upon realization that he left this toy somewhere at home.

When I asked him why he got the mint green colored PSP instead of a black or blue, he told me that it would also look good on me if I'm the one using it.  Thank you dear for being thoughtful but I'd rather watch you playing!

Now that xbox slim is out in the market, I wonder when he will add it to his collection.  I am sure Gab would love that as well and they will both enjoy playing.  On the side, I will love to watch them play instead of me struggling my best to learn the game.

Nothing wrong about these toys for me, its just that I am not really good at it.  I had a hard time learning the Super Mario on our old Nintendo and I don't care if you find me funny.  I think this one is so beautiful  Rey and Gab would love to have.

Gab at Wendy's

One Sunday at Wendys SM Bacoor

It's not just Mc Donald's and Jollibee that Gab likes to go, it seems like he know that I used to work for Wendy's too.  Just like Rey, he can't resist the tempting Frosty.

See!

Here, I am already trying to convince him that we need to go.  Tita Alma and Tito Aris, thanks for tagging us on these photos on your facebook account.

A Father's Day Gift

Optima Omega by Pharmanex

This is my early father's day gift to Rey.  A bottle of Optima Omega by Pharmanex as his dietary suppliment, I got him a supply for six months which will be delivered to our place and with very good discount rate.  Ask me how to get this if you are interested, anyway, it can be delivered anywhere you are in the world.

According to the label, Pharmenex Optima Omega contains combination of the omega 3 fatty acids (including EPA and DHA), deodorized garlic and vitamin e.   This bottle of suppliment has a good amount of Omega 3 fatty acids that will make wonderful job to control or reduce blood triglycerides.  To make it simple and easy to understand, fatty acids helps in promoting normal metobolism.  According to wikipedia "The high level of omega-3 fatty acids consumed by the Inuit reduced triglycerides, heart rate, blood pressure, and atherosclerosis".

Whoa! I am not a medical person and it pains me to explain how it helps metabolism.  Good thing, we have this friendly wikipedia where I got this explanation here. "Triglycerides, as major components of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and chylomicrons, play an important role in metabolism as energy sources and transporters of dietary fat. They contain more than twice as much energy (9 kcal/g or 38 kJ/g ) as carbohydrates and proteins. In the intestine, triglycerides are split into monoacylglycerol and free fatty acids in a process called lipolysis, with the secretion of lipases and bile, which are subsequently moved to absorptive enterocytes, cells lining the intestines. The triglycerides are rebuilt in the enterocytes from their fragments and packaged together with cholesterol and proteins to form chylomicrons. These are excreted from the cells and collected by the lymph system and transported to the large vessels near the heart before being mixed into the blood. Various tissues can capture the chylomicrons, releasing the triglycerides to be used as a source of energy. Fat and liver cells can synthesize and store triglycerides. When the body requires fatty acids as an energy source, the hormone glucagon signals the breakdown of the triglycerides by hormone-sensitive lipase to release free fatty acids. As the brain cannot utilize fatty acids as an energy source (unless converted to a ketone), the glycerol component of triglycerides can be converted into glucose, via glycolysis by conversion into Dihydroxyacetone phosphate and then into Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate, for brain fuel when it is broken down. Fat cells may also be broken down for that reason, if the brain's needs ever outweigh the body's."

I'll stop here, my nose is already bleeding....

Solution for Tendonitis

Have you heard of Tennis Elbow or Golfer's Elbow, its the same as tendonitis?  I am not so much into sport actually and I was not even aware that there are medical cases called such until I saw a pneumatic armband from my police officer cousin.

This product has the following features, focused aircell compression, easy to apply and breathable material.  It only has one size so when I fitted my cousins armband, it also fits me.  My cousin likes to play tennis a lot and he said that with this gadget, he's able to eliminate the pain on his elbow and keep on playing as he like.  By the way, it comes in two colors, beige and black.  Visit this site where my cousin ordered it. Happy Father's Day Mahal

Fathers day is just around the corner and I just want to be the first to greet my dearest husband, Rey.

To share a bit of a background about fathers day, here's what I found online:
"Father's Day in the United States is on the third Sunday of June. It celebrates the contribution that fathers and father figures make for their children's lives. Its origins may lie in a memorial service held for a large group of men, many of them fathers, who were killed in a mining accident in Monongah, West Virginia in 1907. "  Click here for the source.
Happy Father's Day, Mahal. Gab and me loves you so much!!!

Happy Birthday Dearest Lola

Today is my dearest Lola's 85th birthday!

We all feel thankful and blessed after my Lola survived her major left hip surgery last 25th May.  This was due to the bad fall she had while we were on vacation in Bicol.

My Lola is a great survivor.  If you had known her personally and you were able to hear her stories how she brought up  all her children alone after Lolo had passed away, you will see how magnificent she was. By the way, I am included to whom she brought up, I was already with her since I was four months old.  And now, she is as strong as she was before the operation, just that she needs to start to learn how to walk again.

This was taken the next morning after my Lola's major operation.  She's still feels heavy with her anesthesia but was able to smile and look straight to the camera.
We were all at Tita Rose's house last Sunday for my Lola's birthday celebration. I am guilty for not being able to take any picture.  My kept on giving me errands left and right.
